THE STERN TRUTH: Business Unfiltered

Ep. 36 The Stern Truth: How the ONtrepreneur Method Can Be a Game Changer

Marshall Stern Season 1 Episode 36

Send us a text

Are you showing up in your business and in your life?

I recently hosted a masterclass about the ONtrepreneur Method. In that masterclass, we went over the four shifts and the foundation for this method. The participants were wonderful, but there were multiple people who signed up and were no-shows.

It happens. Life happens. It was a free event. But at the end of the day, it’s their loss. They didn’t show up to get that knowledge. The replay is always there, and the insights are always valuable.

All that aside, I explore two extremes of business ownership: being an employee and being an entrepreneur. You see a certain amount of growth as an “employee” of your own business. But you’re not scaling. You need to step into the entrepreneur mindset.

I share how I stopped doing everything myself, pivoting to build systems, hire team members, and focus on real leadership. That’s the clarity piece. That’s the vision. That's how you show up.

That’s the ONtrepreneur Method.

Learn the ONtrepreneur Method at the ONtrepreneur Growth Academy, starting October 8th. If you’re interested in attending, email me at marshall@marshallstern.net

[00:00:00] Before we get into today's episode, I want to quickly mention the ONtrepreneur Growth Academy is just a few weeks away or a couple of weeks away, to be honest. So if you're interested in getting your business to the next level, if you're seem stuck in your business right now, maybe you're doing more than you should, wearing all the hats, reach out to me in order to find me.

[00:00:21] It's in the show notes. ONtrepreneur Growth Academy just two weeks away. It launched October the eighth. We're going to talk a little bit about that and the ONtrepreneur method and what it can do for you and your business in today's episode. So, enjoy.

[00:00:40] Hi, I'm Marshall Stern and I've spent over 35 years leading and growing multiple small businesses. I know firsthand the struggles of entrepreneurship, feeling isolated, lonely, overwhelmed, and feeling like you have to do it all by yourself. I've been through multiple recessions, and I have felt the highs and the lows.

[00:01:00] I've been there, and I get it. This podcast is here to change that every week. I will bring you straight talking advice, real world strategies, and honest conversations about what it takes to succeed in business without the fluff, the gimmicks, or the sugar-coated. If you're ready to stop spinning your wheels and start making real progress, then you are in the right place.

[00:01:22] This is the Stern Truth.

[00:01:28] Alright, welcome back everyone to another episode of the Stern Truth Business Unfiltered. And this really is going to be Business Unfiltered today because I have a question for you. Now, the question is, are you showing up in your business and in your life? Really, the reason I ask this question is because last week we had an amazing masterclass that I hosted called the Four Shifts to Scaling Your Business Without the Overwhelm.

[00:01:58] And what we did was we really went over what I call the ONtrepreneur Method. That's ONtrepreneur with the O. And it – during this class, I unveiled, announced, to launch the ONtrepreneur Growth Academy, which begins on October the eighth.

[00:02:15] We went over the four shifts of what really is the ONtrepreneur Method, this foundation for the ONtrepreneur Method, and, although it was a great class and a nice turnout, there were a lot more people who actually registered for this, who raised their hand, said, I want to come, and they actually went to that next step and put their name and their email in to get the link.

[00:02:35] But they didn't bother to show up. Now, I've said this before, it happens, right? I've done it before. I'm sure you've done it before. It's a free event, so let's just put it down there. There was a replay available so I can acknowledge and appreciate that not everyone can make the live session. But the truth is, if I look at the analytics and if I look at every single person who registered, and I'll give it a couple of weeks, how many of them who didn't show up actually watched the replay and there would be a significant percentage probably who didn't even bother to do that?

[00:03:08] In the moment, something resonated. They wanted the four shifts, but then because it's free, maybe I'll go, maybe I'll watch, maybe I won't. And they didn't show up. And honestly, it is their loss that they didn't show up. So for everyone who was on the live call or even watch the replay of it, they got some amazing insights and takeaways from this, and we're going to go deeper into it in the ONtrepreneur Growth Academy, which begins October 8th.

[00:03:35] If you want to learn more about that, reach out to me and we could discuss further. Just, you know, the drill down below, marshall@marshallstern.net. But today I want to give you one of those shifts and we're going to continue and I'll deliver another shift next week. But first, what is the ONtrepreneur Method?

[00:03:51] What is an on ONtrepreneur? This first shift really explains it. I find that there's really three kinds of business owners. There's three kinds of business owners mindsets. I will clarify that. There's the employee mindset, business operator mindset, and then what I call the ONtrepreneur mindset, which is the leaders mindset.

[00:04:15] And for today's purpose, really we're talking about the two extremes. It's the employee and the entrepreneur. And the ONtrepreneur mindset is what we want to work towards. It's what we want to actually not just work towards. We want to step into. Because the problem with an employee mindset, it will keep your business stuck where it is.

[00:04:34] I can guarantee it. You might have small growth, but it is capped. And if that's what you want, totally fine. If you bought yourself a job, you have a skillset, you're a marketer, so you open up your marketing agency, that's fine. You're a web designer, you open up your own web company or a hairstylist, so you have your own chair, your own business.

[00:04:56] That's fine. If that's all you want out of it and you don't want to grow any further, totally fine. There's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with actually being an employee for a company. It's not for me. It's probably not for you. But if you want to grow, and, I use the word scale loosely, scale, for one person, even growth for one person isn't the same for another.

[00:05:17] That's why I like to meet my clients where they're at. Because scale and growth would be different from person to person. But if you do want that, you need to step into the ONtrepreneur Mindset, the entrepreneur role. Because an employee mindset is when you are stuck doing the work, you're in it, versus the on it.

[00:05:39] There's a time for us to be in the work doing the client deliverables, but then we get stuck with the busy work. There's the admin, the invoicing, the bookkeeping. Trust me, I've been there. When I started my sign graphics business, I made the signs. I designed the signs, so I should say design first, so called design.

[00:06:00] I say that loosely as well. I made the size even though I did have an employee who made most of them. I did the bookkeeping myself. I did the accounts receivable, invoicing, hiring, firing, chief bottle washer, all of it right at the beginning when I started the business. I loved it because it was my baby, but it got to be a little monotonous after a while and my business wasn't growing because I was just doing everything.

[00:06:24] And that's when I discovered the ONtrepreneur Method and it's a better way and it's the way of moving away from just having a tunnel vision of doing what's right in front of you. The client work. Being stuck doing that and not looking at the vision of your business where you want to take it 2, 3, 4, 5 years down the road.

[00:06:45] The entrepreneur, the leader, knows that they have clarity over their vision. They have a team around them. They've built a team that supports them so that they can not just have clarity over the vision, but they can implement the systems and the processes and be consistent on a daily basis too. Be the leader of the business, not the business leading them.

[00:07:07] If you have an employee mindset, the business is leading. You, through the ONtrepreneur Mindset, you lead the business. You have the clarity, you have the team. You have the board of advisors. You might be outsourcing to a VA. You might have a coach or a mentor. You have a bookkeeper who does the books for you.

[00:07:27] Keeping in mind the vision of the company. You are working on a daily basis, on a weekly basis, and a monthly basis to maintain the path and the trajectory of your business, so you stay on path towards the vision that you've set out and you bring people on your team, buy into your vision, believe in your, your vision, and will help you get there faster.

[00:07:52] So that you're not stuck in the employee mindset doing the work right in front of you, which unfortunately is what a lot of people get stuck doing, and they wonder why they're not growing fast enough. They started a business. You started your business because why? More freedom. Freedom of time, financial freedom.

[00:08:11] I bet you're probably working more now in your business than you did when you had a job. The hours are all over the place. It's not nine to five. That's when we get stuck in the employee mindset and we have short term thinking. So I invite you to step into the ONtrepreneur role. I invite you to check out the ONtrepreneur Method.

[00:08:31] I invite you to check out ONtrepreneur Growth Academy. If you want to learn more about that, again, you know the drill, send me an email. To Marshall@marshallstern.net.

[00:08:43] Here's the thing, people who showed up to this masterclass I did last week showed up. They got something out of it. It might have been one, one gold nugget, which is all you really want. One shift.

[00:08:55] I gave four. You could probably use one, one shift to make a big difference in your business. What if you could have that, maybe that shift was today. I'd love to hear your thoughts. What do you think is holding you back from. Building the business that you want. Maybe right now you're not loving your business so much.

[00:09:13] Maybe you're stuck doing everything and you're starting to resent it. There's a better way. The ONtrepreneur Method, which we are going to teach in the ONtrepreneur Growth Academy, is not a system. It's not step one, do this, step two, do that. Step three, do that. It's a framework. It's a framework of a better way so you can build the business.

[00:09:32] That you deserve, that you desire, and it is possible. It's not about 10 x-ing or 20 x-ing or building. You help build you, help you build a 6, 7, 8 figure business. This is about helping you build the business that you want, that serves your life, and helping you stay on track and have the mindset that you need in order to build that business and not do it alone.

[00:09:58] That's what an ONtrepreneur's all about. It's working more on. Yes, there's times to work in, but I coach and mentor other business owners. I'm working one-on-one with them or in a group. I'm delivering that service. Is that in? Yes, but I also have time where I am on, I'm actually always on, have that vision.

[00:10:20] I have people on my team who do other activities that I shouldn't be doing. Like the bookkeeping, like the editing of this podcast, I could save money and I could just do it myself, but is it really saving me money or is it costing me money if I spend the hours it takes to edit and add and do this and do that and publish. Or my time is better spent delivering the service that makes an impact on other business owners and connecting with people out there, building my network, building my world.

[00:10:54] Community growing my business. That's the visionary part. That's the entrepreneur part. So I would love to hear your thoughts on this. If there's something holding you back and you're not quite sure, again, reach out to me. We can have a chat. I'm here. I'm like the guy next door. I've been in it. I've been maybe where you're at.

[00:11:14] It doesn't have to be that hard. As always, I will see you again next week, and I'm going to deliver another shift of the ONtrepreneur Method, but again, the ONtrepreneur Growth Academy is starting in just a few weeks, October 8th. If you're interested, reach out to me.
